The Compass Center offers counseling and advocacy services to primary and secondary victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, a batterer intervention program, and community education and prevention.

Sexual Assault Statistics

  • Every 107 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted.
  • 44% of sexual assault victims are under age 18; 80% are under age 30.
  • 68% of sexual assaults are not reported to police.
  • 98% of rapists will never spend a day in jail.
  • 73% of sexual assaults were perpetrated by a non-stranger.

Domestic Violence Statistics

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been the victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.  This happens to someone you know.
  • Nearly half of all women and men in the US have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.
  • Up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.

Welcome

Welcome to The Compass Center, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  We exist to break the cycle of sexual and domestic violence in the four county area of Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha and Turner.  We provide crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, and prevention education service to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Survivors of sexual and domestic violence receive services at no charge. 

We also offer the area's only batterer intervention program, working with batterers to stop the violence.
